Shopify
A YouTube gallery for Shopify, in one Custom Liquid section.
Product videos, tutorials and unboxings belong next to the products. This is one Custom Liquid section with one iframe: your channel or playlists as a wall, each video playing in a window over the page, so nobody leaves your store to watch.
The marks and videos in these examples are well known ones shown as samples, so the widget is demonstrated at a realistic size. They are their owners' and imply nothing about them.
Three steps
Putting it on the page
1. Gather the videos
Paste your channel or a playlist. Titles, thumbnails and counts are fetched and kept fresh.
2. Copy one line
The editor gives you a single iframe tag.
3. Add a Custom Liquid section
Theme editor, Add section, Custom Liquid, paste, save. Or a Custom Liquid block inside a product template.
The honest comparison
Against a YouTube embed per product
Pasting a YouTube embed into a product description is the usual way.
What that costs you
About half a megabyte of player per embed before anyone presses play, one embed per video, and a description that has to be edited for every new video.
What this costs you
One iframe on the page that shows it. It loads after your content, from a CDN, in its own frame, so it cannot block your page from rendering and cannot reach into your site. Nothing to update. Views are never counted or capped on any plan.
The trade is that the widget lives on our servers rather than yours, and it needs a network connection to appear.
Where it goes
Places it fits
Product pages
A how-to video wall under the product, in the product template.
Home page
Latest videos from your channel.
Collection pages
A wall per collection, each from its own playlist.
Any theme
Custom Liquid is in every Online Store 2.0 theme.
Shopify app, soon
A DreamWidget app for the App Store is being built; the section is the same widget.
Vimeo, Twitch, TikTok
In tabs beside YouTube, if you have them.
Questions
Asked often
Can I add a YouTube gallery to Shopify without an app?
Yes. Paste one iframe tag into a Custom Liquid section. Nothing installs in the theme.
Does it slow the store?
No. The wall is thumbnails until a video is opened; the player loads only then. About 15KB on the page.
Does it update when I upload a new video?
Refresh in the editor pulls the newest videos from the channel or playlist, and every store page showing the wall updates at once.
Is there a view limit?
No, on any plan including the free one. The widget is served from a CDN where views cost us nothing, so we do not meter them the way most widget services do.
What if I change it later?
Edit the widget in the DreamWidget editor and every page showing it updates. The embed points at the widget rather than carrying a copy, so the page is never touched again.
Does it work on phones?
Every design setting is kept separately for desktop, tablet and phone and previewed at that width, so the phone version is something you set, not something that happens to you.
